On behalf of the Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA, it is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you to our faculty. This faculty is one of the sixth public universities in Malaysia that run law degree programmes. We conduct law programmes from Pre-Law to Doctorates of Philosophy. Since the establishment of the Law Programme in 1968, all our lectures and seminars are conducted in English Language. It is our strength, especially in today's globally challenging business world, most employers do not have the luxury of time to train the rookies, and hence we take the initiative to train our law students for transition from academic to industry.

As the Dean, I believe on “team work” among staff as well as students. After all, in our workplace we strive for excellence. To quote Jack Welch the CEO of General Electric USA: “Preferential Power which comes with the title should not be abused. “From him, I learnt that we should not abuse our powers, as the faculty is no place for arrogance! For both academic and non-academic staff, “Work is not popularity contest”, instead, it is about getting the job done effectively and efficiently.

Our main role is to produce, the best of the best law graduates. We need to prepare our students so that after they graduated, they not only bring along their excellent degrees to the employers or any organizations they serve, but we also make sure that they are highly competent, independent, full of confidence, command good oratory & writing skills (English and Malay), as well as to be professionals in their chosen career.

To achieve our desire, our faculty focuses on courses and curricular that are relevant, such as professional practice and ethics apart from imparting to them an in-depth knowledge of substantive laws, in particular the LL.B (Hon) Professional Practice Programme – which is unique and one of its kind in Malaysia. It is a stimulatory course adopting the simulated or experiential approach to teaching and learning. It’s more of “legal firms” approach. Here, we encourage mature and also international students to join our distance learning and postgraduate programmes, because we believe interaction with others would help to mould our graduates to be more open-minded, knowledgeable and more sensitive of other culture and practices.

In this faculty we have objectives, missions and visions – “the establishment of an exemplary faculty that excels in education, training and leadership in the field of law.” We also adhere to our tagline, “Faculty of Law, UiTM – where law and technology meet.” Thus, we have Centers of Excellence, namely Center for International Law; Center for Cyber Law and Policy as well as Centre for Criminal Justice Studies. These Centres oversee conferences, seminars, workshop and research work in their respective fields. At the same time, we have many students’ societies and clubs as StudentRepresentative Council, Mooting Club, Law Debating Club, Legal Aid, and Environmental Law & Awareness Club. These organizations help our students to be more independent, resourceful and all-rounder individuals.

Finally, as an educator or law teacher myself, I strongly believe that apart teaching our students well, prepare them for requisite knowledge and skills as to ensure their career gain, all law lectures are required to continue doing research work, present our papers in conferences, publish law articles and to write books in order to share our knowledge with others (both in and outside this university). I strongly believe our faculty has both the facilities and expertise to produce high quality law graduates. At the same time, we also ensure our staff and students’ life here, are both worthwhile and enjoyable.

 Jabatan Undang-Undang di Universiti Teknologi MARA Kampus Segamat merupakan fakulti sokongan yang memberikan khidmat “servicing” kepada dua fakulti utama di kampus ini iaitu Fakulti Perakaunan dan Fakulti Pengurusan Perniagaan. Memandangkan tiada pelajar undang-undang di sini, para pensyarah undang-undang adalah sebagai “servicing lecturers” sahaja.

Jabatan ini mempunyai seramai 9 orang pensyarah yang kebanyakanya merupakan bekas peguam. Dengan kapasiti tersebut, Jabatan ini bertanggungjawab untuk mengajar sebanyak 6 subjek yang merupakan subjek asas untuk kedua-dua fakulti yang telah dinyatakan di atas untuk pelajar-pelajar yang mengikuti program Diploma mahupun Ijazah Sarjana Muda.
