Universiti Teknologi MARA Johor was established on 15 December, 1983 at a temporary site in Taman Indah, Bukit Siput, Segamat, Johor.
The campus was officially opened by Dato’ Abd. Ajib bin Ahmad, the then Menteri Besar of Johor on 1 January 1984. The first intake of 175 students studied full-time for Diploma in Accountancy, Diploma in Business Studies, Diploma in Banking, Diploma in Public Administration and Diploma in Secretarial Sciences. At that time the campus had 27 administrative staff and 9 academic staff.
Due to the annual increase in the number of students, the campus was moved to another temporary site at Segamat Baru. The campus could accommodate up to 1,000 students. On 1 January 1990, the campus was finally relocated to its permanent site at the 12km Muar Road, Segamat, on 200-hectare piece of land given by the State Government of Johor. Among the facilities in the campus are an administration building, an academic building, an Islamic Centre, a main hall, lecture theatres, a guest house, language and computer laboratories, multimedia language laboratories, a medical centre, a library and sports complex.
